Synplicity and Flextronics Team to Provide Prototyping Solutions for High-Performance ASIC Verification
Companies to Work Together to Develop Custom and Off-the-Shelf Boards
SUNNYVALE, Calif., July 30, 2002 - Synplicity, Inc. (Nasdaq: SYNP), a leading supplier of software for the design and verification of semiconductors, and Flextronics Design, a business unit of Flextronics and a leading global provider of engineering design services, today announced a partnership to provide customers with prototyping solutions for high-performance ASIC verification. Flextronics is now the recommended partner for custom boards developed with Synplicity's Certify® verification synthesis software. Additionally, Flextronics and Synplicity will work together to develop an off-the-shelf prototyping board optimized to work with the Certify software, enabling a rapid design-to-prototype path.
"Flextronics is an experienced provider of innovative design services solutions and we believe our partnership with a company with such a proven track record will benefit our customers greatly," said Andy Haines, vice president of marketing at Synplicity. "With our Certify software synthesizing ASIC designs to multiple FPGAs, and Flextronics providing the know-how and hardware, we believe we can provide the best solution for designers needing high-performance ASIC prototypes for verification."
Vig Sherrill, vice president and general manager, Flextronics Semiconductor, added, "We are pleased Synplicity has endorsed us as its recommended partner for custom board development. Synplicity's Certify software provides an extremely fast and powerful prototyping solution. Working together, we can provide an easy path for our customers to obtain high performance and fast time to market, regardless of their ASIC prototyping experience and needs."
Developing High-Performance Custom Boards Using the Certify Software
Flextronics is Synplicity's recommended partner for custom board development. Custom boards provide the highest performance available to designers who need to maximize clock frequency or provide custom I/Os for a specific design. Custom boards offer designers a higher performance, more flexible prototyping solution compared to off-the-shelf boards, however, the development process of custom boards has traditionally been time consuming and costly for ASIC designers. With this agreement, Flextronics will offer ASIC designers the ability to have a custom board built directly from the netlist produced by the Certify software, producing a high-performance prototype for their verification needs.
Off-the-Shelf Boards Ease Prototyping Process
Incorporating RTL functional prototyping into the ASIC design flow offers designers substantial time to market and cost advantages, and enables early system software debugging. The availability of pre-defined, interoperable solutions reduces the time, cost and risk of incorporating this FPGA-based prototyping methodology into an existing design flow. Synplicity and Flextronics will work together to develop an off-the-shelf board optimized for the Certify software. Designers can use this board along with the software's "push-button" prototyping flow to automatically partition and synthesize their design, enabling a rapid design-to-prototype path.
